After the big success of “Ink Global 2017”, Wan Fung Art Gallery is going to hold a series of Selected Ink Artists Invitational Exhibition from Oct 2017 to Oct 2018 at Wan Fung Art Gallery Headquarter in To Kwa Wan. Comprising of a series of ink masterpieces from several elite artists, these shows are aiming to introducing both the masters and the new artists and bringing the beauty and excellence of Chinese ink painting into the world.
Wan Fung Art Gallery is proud to present Selected Ink Artists Invitational Exhibition (1st Term) from 26th October to 11th November, 2017. This exhibition presents brilliant artworks of eight outstanding artists including Hu Yongkai, Zhao Chengxiang, Wu Qiming, Xing Chengai, Feng Yiming, Xu Yuankai, Liu Zuliang and Lei Ling. The opening reception will start at 3pm, 26th October, 2017.
Hu Yongkai does not follow paths treaded by others but forms his unique style on his solid foundation of traditional painting skills. He succeeds to infuse the charisma of the centuries old Chinese culture with the forceful expressions of the West by his brilliant matching of lines and colors in his paintings. By reflecting upon the traditional Chinese art from a modern perspective, Hu achieves a kind of individuality that carries a sense of modernity with uncommon oriental charm.
It is so pleasing and peaceful to enjoy Zhao Chengxiang’s works. The oriental home and garden designs from her paintings reveal the reading and tea culture of China. We could fully experience the charm of oriental culture, and the Zhao’s quiet, serene and cozy ambience. Her art pieces teach people to live to the fullest.
Wu Qiming’s work is highly innovative and individualistic. His every use of stroke is effective and accurate, indicating his full mastery of the nature of Chinese brush and ink ––once a mark is made, no correction can be made. Moreover, he uses different tones of ink and shapes of stroke-marks to express the forms, texture, light and shadow, and eventhe motion of the objects. All these require high expertise.
Xing Chengai is unceasingly studying and forming a new expressive way of which it absorbs the traditional and bold creativity. Xing specializes in Gongbi style (fine brushwork) cat, dog, and tiger. His animal works are characterized by a sort of distinctive brush-texture and quality of fur, which are distinct from other artists’ works.
Feng Yiming specializes in landscape and flowers-and-birds paintings. He emphasizes that Western art must be integrated with Chinese tradition. He stresses on literary cultivation, thus his works are magnificent, transcendent and elegant.
Xu Yuankai has created many new blanking methods. He uses “white” as the main art language. He is good at drawing modern topics such as the sea and the universe. After long terms of studying and practicing, Xu created his own style, which highlights the tension of white lines.
Liu Zuliang applies the meticulous techniques in Chinese paintings and creates a creepy, romantic, absurd, and deep feeling about his paintings. His unique art style consists of fantasy, imaginary, and surreal composition.
Lei Ling’s pen drawing is simple yet elegant. Her strokes are alike with the “White painted Law”, which are both traditional but outstanding; an ancient oriental lady with a contemporary eye-catching background.
